DP World Inaugurated Berbera Port Expansion

Berbera—11, October, 2018—today, DP World officials arrived in Berbera prior to the inauguration, today, the president visited Berbera to participate in the inauguration ceremony. The ceremony has been delayed for the president. A huge delegation from the UAE had come.

Berbera lying in the mouth of Babul Mandab, the natural gateway of the Red Sea has been business hub and exchange of goods for hundreds of years.  In the recent memory of the elder generation, Othman Empire settled in Berbera port and built sophisticated facilities to which some of them has been intact to day.

The water system is one of the a legacies  of Othman Empire as well as Britain expanded the port and later on the Soviet Union lied the ground of military airfield that has the longest runway in the continent. Siyad Barre’s government rented out to USSR and the US to land their satellites in orbit to explode over in case of failure to land since the residents were none.  

Berbera is now reviving from business stagnation and ready to load and unload container ships from Europe, North America, and the Middle East and it may also serve an oil transit. The DP World expansion is said to include oil terminal to let anchor by giant oil tankers passing the Middle East to deliver the oil to the industrial countries.
