Somaliland Covid-19 Updates and Renationalization of A Hotel

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Somalia increased to 43 as three new cases were recorded today.

The director general of the health ministry, Dr. Mohamed Abdi Hergeeye said the new cases are two men and a woman. All the patients are currently in the capital Hargeisa.

The director general further announced that 64 people are now in government-run quarantine centers.

Somaliland’s minister of information and culture announced that the government has officially taken over Hargeisa Club Hotel – the controversial hotel that the government has recently terminated its lease to a clan leader….

Minister Saleeban Yusuf Ali stated that Hargeisa Club Hotel is a government property that is restored to public ownership. He argued that the constitution grants the government the right to restore previous government properties and to take private property when needed.

The minister added that Hargeisa Club Hotel will be used treating and isolating COVID-19 patients if need for more space arises.

Hargeisa Club Hotel was one the most famous hotels in Somaliland. The government of President Ahmed Silanyo has leased it for thirty years to Sultan Saeed, one of the traditional clan leaders in Somaliland.

On the other hand, In a tone deaf statement, the minister bragged about president Bihi’s acquisition of private lands to build a new presidential palace.

The president of the republic of Somaliland has compulsorily acquired a land for a whole presidential palace. I cannot say how much it is, but it is over 5km of private land. That’s because this country needed a presidential palace worthy of its honor and esteem.
