The Government of Somaliland, under the leadership of President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Cirro, has launched the Berbera Free Zone extension to include new industrial parks, marking a significant milestone in the country’s economic transformation. This initiative, developed in collaboration with DP World, aims to position Somaliland as a major investment destination in the Horn of Africa while creating thousands of job opportunities.
A Gateway for Global Investors
The expansion of the Berbera Free Zone (BFZ) is a strategic move to attract international businesses and investors looking for a stable, business-friendly environment in East Africa. With a modern industrial park offering serviced land, pre-built warehouses, and investment-friendly policies, Somaliland is sending a clear message to global industries: We are open for business!
President Cirro emphasized the government’s commitment to facilitating investment by ensuring streamlined regulations, secure land allocations, and an investor-friendly climate. The project builds on the success of the Berbera Economic Zone (BEZ), modeled after Dubai’s Jebel Ali Free Zone, a proven economic powerhouse.

Job Creation and Economic Growth
The new Berbera Industrial Park will directly contribute to job creation, both in construction and long-term industrial operations. Key areas expected to drive employment include:
• Manufacturing & Agro-processing – Expanding local industries for domestic use and export.
• Logistics & Warehousing – Strengthening Somaliland’s position as a regional trade hub.
• Renewable Energy – Promoting green industries and innovation.
• Construction & Infrastructure Development – Creating demand for skilled and unskilled labor.
As industries flourish within the industrial park, thousands of direct and indirect jobs will emerge, empowering Somaliland’s youth and boosting household incomes.
Strengthening Somaliland’s Regional Role
With a strategic location on the Gulf of Aden, a deep-water port, and now a state-of-the-art industrial hub, Somaliland is positioning itself as a key player in regional trade. The Berbera Industrial Park will serve businesses targeting Ethiopia, East Africa, and global markets, reducing dependency on imports while enhancing local production capacity.
A Promising Future
Somaliland’s bold economic vision is coming to life through infrastructure development and strategic partnerships. The Berbera Industrial Park is more than an economic project—it’s a symbol of growth, stability, and ambition.
As Somaliland invites global investors, it is laying the foundation for a prosperous future, creating opportunities for businesses and transforming livelihoods for its people.
