Yesterday, Somaliland Court of Appeals returned the vehicles— the cars, and donkeys— caught carrying Khats during the lockdown of the Corvid-19. The law enforcement agencies were ordered to nationalize the confiscated cars. The vehicles consisted of water trucks, vans, taxis, and lories and they were televised painted with the blue color of the police forces.
Now the highest courts and judiciary system reversed the police’s decision and gave them back to its original owners but with penalties have to paid before handovers of the vehicles. it is not clear how much they should pay afterwards.
the government reduced the sentences which were three years of imprisonment and three million Somaliland shilings to one year and four months
Fancy cars cost between 18,000, to 20000 USD while others as cheap as 400 USD Mark Two, Toyata old version with rusts scrapped already and parked for so long.
the defense lawyers described the regional court of ” violating of the laws” and the prisoners did nothing to remain behind bars.
