Hargeisa – Somaliland – The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), has donated ten dialysis machines to the Hargeisa Group Hospital to support the hospital’s kidney care unit and address the growing need for dialysis services in the country.
The Director General of Hargeisa Group Hospital, Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Osman, expressed gratitude to the President for the timely and essential donation, stating that the machines will significantly enhance the hospital’s ability to serve patients suffering from kidney-related illnesses.
“We are pleased to inaugurate ten newly acquired dialysis machines, which have now been added to the kidney care and treatment department at Hargeisa General Hospital,” said Dr. Osman. “These machines were donated by the President of the Republic of Somaliland in response to our direct request highlighting the urgent need for dialysis support.”
Dr. Osman elaborated on the kidney unit’s capacity and growing challenges, noting that the department currently operates with two sections — one established by the Somaliland government and another funded by the United Arab Emirates. “The previous machines have been in service since 2014. Today, the hospital serves 150 dialysis patients, but over 20 more are still awaiting access due to a lack of machines,” he explained.
He emphasized the rising demand for dialysis services, attributing it to increasing cases of chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, which often lead to kidney failure. “The number of patients continues to rise. We are dealing with an influx of walk-in patients daily,” said Dr. Osman.
Dr. Osman concluded his remarks with a heartfelt thank you to the President, saying, “Mr. President, may God reward you for your generous contribution. On behalf of the patients and staff, we express our deep appreciation. We also call on other donors and partners to support us with more dialysis machines to meet the overwhelming demand.”
This donation marks a crucial step toward improving public healthcare services in Somaliland, especially for those battling chronic kidney diseases.
