though is hard to trace the disease spread pattern due to the pastoral society, Somaliland is working hard day in and day to halt the upsurge of the illness.
According to the daily briefing by Somaliland Ministry of health. The country has recorded 13 new cases of Covid 19 which brings the total number to 593…………
Coronavirus infections in Somaliland are still increasing, though at a lower pace.
The ministry of health development has recorded new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours.
While addressing the media in the capital Hargeisa, Dr. Hussein who is one of the officials of Somaliland’s Ministry of Health confirmed that within the last 24 hours Somaliland recorded 13 new cases and the victims are in Hargeisa, Borama and one from Garowe of Puntland state of Somalia.
Somaliland Ministry of health also confirmed that the average age of the victims of the coronavirus infections ranges between 20 to 39 years old.
The ministry is also concerned that many people are not following of covid19 regulations which are imposed by the government.
Mr Hussein said there is nothing mythical about Covid-19 so Somalilanders should support government initiatives to deal with the disease.
He further told the public to take personal responsibility in the fight against the virus by maintaining high standard of hygiene, enhancing social distancing and staying at home.
The low number of cases reported in Somaliland and across Africa continues to puzzle scientists.
Experts however are attributing the low Covid-19 mortality in Somaliland and the continent to its youthful population.
Africa’s more youthful population, with a median age of less than 20 years, when compared with those in Europe and the US, whose median age is greater than 38 years, may have contributed to the low numbers of severe Covid-19 cases and deaths.
However, this population has also been blamed for the spread of the disease.
Somaliland confirmed the first two cases of covid-19 in March this year. One cabinet minister was also tested positive.
It was yesterday when the ministry denounced that the Director General of the Ministry Dr, Mohamed Abdi Hargeeye was tested Positive from Covid19 and described him safe and healthy.
No death was reported and cumulatively the tally remains at 27.
