The death toll of Palestinians killed in the ongoing Israeli bombardments of Gaza has surged to 18,800, with several others buried under the rubbles.
A statement by the Gaza-based Government Media Office, also confirmed that 51,000 Palestinians have so far been injured by the Israeli army in Gaza in 70 days of the deadly war.
The statement added that 8,000 children and 6,200 women were among those killed in the military campaigns.
It stressed that raging attacks have caused “an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe” and immense destruction in the besieged enclave.
The United Nations had earlier announced plans to launch an inquiry to investigate agency workers who were killed and damage to its facilities after the conflict in the Gaza Strip ended.
Spokesman to the Secretary General of the UN, Stephane Dujarric told reporters that after the conflict, there will need to be a board of inquiry from the UN to look at the loss of property and the loss of UN lives.
In reprisals for a cross-border raid by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas on Oct. 7, Israel has launched destructive attacks on Gaza from the air and land, imposed a siege, and opened a violent ground offensive.
According to official figures, the official Israeli death toll in the Hamas attack stands at 1,200, while around several others remain in captivity.
