Somalia defense forces have claimed to have killed more than 20 al-Shabab members and wounded others in heavy fighting between the army and Alshabab at a military base in Awdheegle district in southern Somalia.
The Ministry of information revealed that the troops responded swiftly and foiled the attack by al-Shabab fighters at the military base and the army recovered weapons from the group.
The government did not confirm if there were casualties on the Somalia National Army side during the fierce fighting. However, Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the latest attack, saying its fighters killed 59 soldiers including commanders and ran over the base.
The attacks continue across Somalia despite the security forces backed by allied forces having stepped up operations against the militants in the country as the high ranking officials of the government encourage the public to participate in the ongoing operations against Alshabab.
