Ahmed Madobe hosts Federal & State finance conference

Jubbaland State President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Ahmed Madobe today opened a conference on Somalia’s financial affairs in the port city of Kismayo, attended by the federal government and regional administrations.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Finance Abdirahman Duale Beyle and all ministers of state finance in the country’s all federal member states.

During the meeting, the stakeholders discussed issues on the financial structures of Somalia and to improve the financial management of member states.

The conference in Kismayu is the first in recent months between officials from the federal government and regional member states who have been at loggerheads, specifically Jubaland and Puntland.

The conference was organized by the Ministry of Finance and hosted by, Ahmed Madove’s administration.

Minister Abdirahman Duale Beyle called on the people of Lower Jubba to take advantage of the natural resources God has invested in the region and to initiate development projects for the people of the Jubba region.

The high-level meeting is the first meeting Madobe held with federal government leaders since he was controversially re-elected as president of the Jubbaland state of Somalia in September.

At the Inter-Governmental Fiscal Federalism meeting in Kismayo today, the stakeholders all agreed to continue with their collective hard work to strengthen Somalia’s economy through the achievement of common reforms and harmonization of policies and processes to support this.

President of the Federal government of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, rejected Madobe’s victory in September 2019, accusing Kenya of forcefully imposing him on the people of Jubaland.

The federal government termed his re-election ‘illegitimate’.
