According to reports, Al Shabaab fighters have raided an Ethiopian Military base which is under the AMISOM troops in Somalia. No deaths have been confirmed yet, but there are casualties reported.
Al Shabab attacked the Ethiopian troops who are part of the AMISOM operation in the Gedo region of Somalia on Saturday. Neither side has confirmed how many people were killed in the fight, but reports indicate that there are severe casualties on both sides.
Residents in the areas said that the fight between Ethiopian troops and al-Shabab fighters took long hours and ended late at night and they could not give much detail to the media as it was night time.
According to Somalia officials, the current situation of the region is calm and safe and they have started to conduct investigations in the area.
This is not the first time Alshabab fighters have attacked AMISOM troops. In the past, they have carried out similar attacks on AMISOM and Somali military bases.
Al-Shabab militant group wishes to overthrow the Federal Government of Somalia and establish an Islamic state under their control.
