A grand conference of regional autonomies was hosted yesterday in the Banadir Provincial Administration of Mogadishu. The Somalia’s presidents met the six heads of the autonomies and the gubernatorial administrator of Banadir under his government. Galmudug State President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor who was away when the summit began, arrived the capital Mogadishu last night and immediately joined the meeting.

The meeting bordered on the formation of an election dispute committees at federal, regional, and district levels with the primary task of solving election disputes in case if they arise. The meeting was about when the committee would be nominated and the number of committees and other important issues related to the presidential elections.

These leaders reached an agreement about the presidential election 13 days ago. The president of Somalia and his regional leaders will delve into the remaining details about the election accord.

President Abdilahi Farmaajo said the parliamentary said they would amend or add new articles to the agreement; they ruled out election delays and urged all sides to confront election challenges together. President Abdilahi Farmaajo had insisted on a ‘one man, one vote’ system but he finally changed his mind after he realised that such democratic elections are impossible due to security challenges under present circumstances.

In his address in the parliament and to the nation, he said, ‘I am ready for ‘one man, one vote’ elections but this is not technically feasible. Therefore, the old traditional voting of elders and MPs of indirect elections would be the answer.’ Business will be as usual but with an increase in the number of voters for MPs.
