Hargaysa, 04, November, 2018. Hirsi H Ali, an opposition figure and former minister of presidential affairs has written a book about his life from a nomadic village to the presidential palace. However, there is controversy over his confessions in the book, which include the health status of the outgoing president Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo, who suffered dementia a month after his election, and suggested that he resigns.

The book has divided readers and the general public. There are those that say that he did a good job, while others are offended by some of the mention of the mental health of the president. The former president’s son in law and the head of Somaliland’s liaison office in Kenya Mr Bashe, popularly known as ‘Morgan” said he will sue the author.

If the claims in the book are true, it will have exposed many sad facts on the misuse of power and the country’s wealth. Fans of the book say it has opened a new era in writing about the hard truths on the daily activities of officials in government offices.

The book is now proclaimed to be the most popular in Somaliland.

It also carries another controversy as the electronic version that has been circulated online seems to have different content from the hard copy. The author has angrily accused the local publisher of leaking it. The uproar over the content of the book will not die down soon, but it will not affect the security and social cohesion in Somaliland.
