Cyril Ramaphosa celebrates as South Africa wins fourth Rugby World Cup in Paris

South Africa’s Springboks won a record fourth Rugby World Cup after the African sides defeated New Zealand in a winner-takes -all final in the French capital, Paris. Meanwhile President Cyril Ramaphosa has lauded the achievement of the team for doing South Africa and the continent proud…

South Africa won a record fourth Rugby World Cup by doing just enough to defeat 14-man New Zealand and retain their title in a frantic final in Paris.

Handre Pollard scored four title-deciding penalties to help the Springboks to a nail-biting victory and denied the All Blacks their chance of winning a fourth title in their record fifth final.

The latest victory means the Springboks have now won half of the eight events in which they have competed.

South Africa was barred from participating in the first two editions due to the sporting ban imposed by the rest of the world in response to the country’s apartheid administration.

Many black South Africans despised the Springboks at the time. However, under the leadership of Kolisi, the team’s first black Test captain, they have garnered support from across the Rainbow Nation.

While reacting to the success of the Springboks in France, President Cyril Ramaphosa Ramaphosa stressed that the slogan, Stronger Together is a belief that came alive for supporters across South Africa.

The president stressed that Siya Kolisi and the 2023 World Cup champions have gifted the nation an extraordinary, inspired and inspiring national achievement that lifts our hearts and hoists our Flag even higher

President Ramaphosa congratulated New Zealand for a hard-fought World Cup campaign that made the All Blacks deserving finalists.
