According to initial reports, at least Five people, including Somalia military officials and a United Arab Emirates (UAE) soldiers, were killed after a soldier opened fire at a military base in the capital Mogadishu.
The gunman, reportedly a newly-trained Somalian soldier, was also shot dead in the Gordon military base managed by the UAE. additional reports say, the soldier had defected from al Shabaab before he was recruited as a soldier by Somalia and UAE.
Al Shabab issues an official statement on General Gordan military training facility in Mogadishu stating that seventeen military trainers, including high-ranking Emirati officers, were killed.
The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has strongly condemned the attack that killed several Emirati officers at the General Gordon military base in Mogadishu. He visited the injured officers at the Erdogan Hospital in Mogadishu and expressed his condolences to the government and the people of the United Arab Emirates.
He also instructed the security agencies to conduct a thorough and urgent investigation into the security breach and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
