Eidul- Fitr, the Muslim Festivity Celebrated Across Somaliland

On May 23, 2020, Somaliland Minister of Religion and Endowment announced it was Eid. The president Muse Bihi Abdi and national leaders of the opposition congratulated Somalilanders and the Muslim at large wishing health and prosperity until next Eid.

People were keen to welcome it with fanfare and variety of entertainments; parents spent on toys and bought new dress for their children. The second were overjoyed by the generosity of the guardians.

“ Eid Mubarak” was the most frequent message in exchange among not just friends, families, neighbors, colleagues, but also among strangers. Somalilanders put their political difference aside and get together to make picnics outskirts of Hargeisa places like Isha Gopta, exotic local tourist destination. Couples crave to visit all time. It is funky and breathtaking view. It has water ponds at the least during the spring.

Others went out to camp in the west of Hargeisa in search of Mother Nature. The feeling of Eid under cloudy sitting under bushes and tree shaking by breeze is beyond description.

Minister of Religion called the day Eid very late disagreeing with Saudi’s norm of pioneering and making the rest of Muslim world emulate them. He declared the day ahead of them. This is came when Nile Dam dispute is going up and Somalia remains neutral or even siding with Addis Ababa, a weird for many outsiders who knew Somalia follow the footsteps of Arabia.
