El-Sisi Secures Third Term Victory in Egypt’s Presidential Elections

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt has won for the third time, a position as Egypt’s leader for another six-year term. Egypt’s electoral commission announced al-Sisi’s victory on Monday.

According to the commission, El Sisi secured his re-election bid with 89.6 percent of the vote cast, leading Hazem Omar, the runner-up, who garnered 4.5 percent of votes and Ahmed Tantawy, the leading opposition candidate, who withdrew from the race, citing intimidation and violence against his campaign camp

The 69 year old will embark on his third term on Wednesday April 3, following the conclusion of his current term on Tuesday April 2, as stipulated in article 140 of the Egyptian constitution, established in 2014 with amendments in 2019.

As mandated by Article 144, El-Sisi will take the oath of office before parliament or the General Assembly of the Supreme Constitutional Court, in the absence of parliament.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at the New Administrative Capital, marking the beginning of El-Sisi’s third term as Egypt’s leader.
