This move underscores Ethiopia’s firm commitment to the principles of South-South Cooperation, emphasizing collaboration among developing nations.
In the official statement release on Monday, the ministry highlighted that Ethiopia’s inclusion in BRICS recognizes its substantial multilateral contributions to global peace, security, and prosperity.
The decision to extend an invitation to Ethiopia is seen as an acknowledgment of the country’s current economic status and its ongoing reforms. the statement reads.
It says Ethiopia, guided by its longstanding principles and a history of active participation in multilateral initiatives, affirmed its preparedness to play a positive role in promoting peace and prosperity alongside other BRICS members.
To facilitate effective engagement, the Ethiopian government has established both national ministerial and senior official coordination committees.
The BRICS, initially comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, expanded its membership during the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg.
Ethiopia, along with other nations such as Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, received an invitation to join, highlighting the group’s openness to integrating diverse economies into its cooperative mechanism.
