A Slovenian member of the European Parliament has disclosed that the international community has a “responsibility” to support South Africa’s genocide lawsuit against Israel, just as it has supported Ukraine against Russia.
Matjaz Nemec said this while delivering his keynote speech at a ceremony commemorating the 82nd anniversary of the Battle of Drazgose, a World War II battle in present-day Slovenia in which the Nazis destroyed a village and killed scores of civilians.
The European MP stressed that the situation in Gaza is nothing more than an attempt to destroy a nation by the occupier, as he warned Europe and the world not to continue to watch the destruction of a nation and its people by the Israeli forces in the ongoing war.
He said, “As we joined the Ukrainian action against Russia in its aggression against Ukraine, it is our responsibility to now join the activities of the Republic of South Africa and its action against Israel,” stressing that the war in Gaza amounts to “genocide.”
The Slovenian top politician emphasised the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination while calling for a peaceful process that should lead to the recognition of an independent Palestine.
Recall that South Africa filed a genocide case against Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague.
This follows massive killings of civilians especially innocent children and women in the war against Hamas in Gaza.
