Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdillahi Farmajo has met with the state Presidents in Mogadishu over the recently concluded talks between the Federal government and its member states.
The focus of the meeting was how to accelerate the implementations of decisions reached at the recently concluded electoral talks between the Federal governments and state leaders.
The Federal Government pledged to invest much effort into implementing the deal whose approval by the parliament is expected in the coming days. The two sides affirmed that they are ready for the election to happen on time.
Somalia’s international partners observed with regret two days before that the announced model falls short of the longstanding Somali goal of direct voting for members of parliament in this electoral cycle. The partners urge that the 2020/21 electoral process be free, fair, transparent and inclusive.
They also encouraged rapid progress to establish other Somali democratic institutions, including the judicial services commission and the human rights commission, along with efforts to advance the review of the Provisional Federal Constitution and ensure respect for international commitments on human rights.
