Panic has engulfed residents in Ruaka near Fortune Club in Kenya after a 5-storey building under construction collapsed in the wee hours of Thursday morning.
Speaking to the media, St John’s Ambulance official confirmed that the incident occurred at 5 am after the building collapsed on a neighbouring house with family members who were asleep at the time believed to be trapped.
Several emergency response teams led by Kiambu fire brigade and the Kenya Red Cross are currently leading rescue efforts amid fears several people have been trapped.
This comes barely two days after a seven-storey building collapsed in Kasarani area of Nairobi Currently, the death toll stands at three as eight people were rescued from the rubble.
The tragedy paints a clear picture of the unscrupulous nature of a section of contractors who in turn endanger the lives of occupants.
