Al-Shabaab attacked at least five locations in Galgudud region and blew up water wells, boreholes and communication masts in Somalia’s Galmudug state. Local sources told the media that there were no casualties recorded in yesterday’s Al-Shabaab attack in contrast to previous attacks usually conducted by the terrorist group.
The attack hit Maarsa-mage, Qaayib, Dhisag-shurufle, Aliwayd, Dhuumodle and Adakibir locations. Galgadud residents are now left staring at yet another crisis after the few remaining water sources were blown up.
Conflict over water has been rife for the past several days owing to the severe drought that has hit the region.
According to Galmudug officials, Al-Shabaab killed at least 100 people on June 17 in the Bahdo district when the locals and Galmudug soldiers joined forces to stop an Al-Shabaab offensive.
Since then, residents of the nearby Baxdo districts have said that Al-Shabaab has threatened them and imposed sanctions on them, including cutting off connectivity in some places.
