At least seven people including government soldiers have been killed and several were wounded following heavy fighting between Somali military and al-Shabaab fighters in southern Somalia.
According to Somali military officials, heavily armed al-Shabaab fighters stormed the camp belonging to the national intelligence and security agency (NISA) in Dhobley town of the Lower Jubba region.
A military officer told the state-owned media that five al-Shabaab fighters and two government soldiers have died in the fighting. Al-Shabaab fighters were defeated and went away with casualties. The camp is under the control of the government forces.
The officer also claimed that the government forces recovered weapons and ammunition. The attack comes as Somali forces stepped up operations against al-Shabaab fighters in central and southern Somalia.
