Suspected Al-Shabaab militants, in the wee hours of Thursday morning, shot and killed two people along the Lamu-Garsen road in Lamu County of Kenya.
Reports say that at least 10 militants, clad in military attire, had set up an illegal roadblock on the road and were questioning motorists before GSU officers arrived at the scene and confronted them.
A fierce gun battle ensued between the officers and the militants before the suspected terrorists fled to Boni forest.
The officers managed to rescue four people, among them two Italian nationals, who had been held captive by the extremists.
The bodies of the deceased persons have since been moved to Mpeketoni hospital morgue as police attempt to track down the militants.
