Somali Gorgor special commandos alongside regional militia claimed to have killed six al Shabab fighters in a security operation in the Burta Da’arow area in the Hiiraan region, where the group had been operating from a large base.
Security officials leading the operations told state-owned media that the forces managed to rescue almost four hundred goats, which the group forcibly took over from nearby villages.
They added that similar security operations would continue until Al-Shabaab was eradicated from the Hiiraan region.
Over the last month, heavy fighting between government forces alongside villagers and al Shabab occurred in several parts of Beledweyne, Mataban, Mahas, Jalalaqsi, and Buulaburte districts, with dozens of people killed on both sides.
The Federal Council of Ministers praised clans in Hiiraan for their courage and mobilization efforts against al-Shabaab during its weekly meeting on Thursday, adding that liberating Al-Shabaab-controlled areas is a government priority.
They commended security forces for supporting anti-al-Shabaab militia in the fight against al-Shabaab
