The Special Representative of the African Union Commission Chairperson (SRCC) for Somalia and Head of ATMIS, Ambassador Mohamed El-Amine Souef, gave the assurance, when he hosted foreign diplomats accredited to Somalia, attended by representatives of United Nations agencies and officials of the Federal Government of Somalia.
Ambassador Souef pledged to work with all partners to support efforts towards the reconstruction and development of Somalia for the benefit of the Somali people, and stated that ATMIS is committed fully to deliver on its mandate.
The Uganda Ambassador to Somalia, Gen. Nathan Mugisha, who spoke on behalf of ambassadors from ATMIS Troop Contributing Countries, urged international partners to support Somalia in the implementation of the recently launched National Stabilisation Strategy, saying that this is the right moment to support the stabilisation efforts and also stated that he except this programme to be very successful.
Since his assumption of office in November, the SRCC for Somalia and Head of ATMIS, Ambassador Souef, has been holding a series of engagements with various stakeholders.
ATMIS is the largest peace support mission in Africa and has been mandated by both the African Union Peace and Security Council and the United Nations to reduce the threat posed by Al-Shabaab and support peace and reconciliation efforts towards a secure and stable Somalia.
