The African Union has vowed to extend support to locals in order to defeat Alshabab. The AU mission said in a statement that the AU remains committed to working with Somali security forces towards peace and security in Somalia.
The African transition mission in Somalia did not specify the kind of support it would extend to the locals if its military weapons, strategies or training. But, the AU believes this is the right time for the public to unite against the group after Al-Shabaab fighters killed at least 20 people including women and children and burnt down 7 trucks in the Hiiraan region.
Last week, Anti Alshabab militia and Somalia army forces jointly conducted military operations against Alshabab and pledged to remove the fighters from the final remaining areas in Somalia.
