The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) commended Somalia security forces for the operations against Al-Shabaab fighters in different parts of the country.
In a statement, ATMIS said the Somali National Army (SNA) is capable of leading successful anti-terror operations. “The ongoing military operations are proof that the SNA can take over security responsibility of their country,” the statement reads in part.
The statement reads thatb this phase of the military operation has witnessed developments on the security front where Somali security forces have proved their increasing capabilities to attack, win and hold ground.
It also said the Somali Security Forces (SSF) backed by ATMIS are protecting civilians in the recently liberated areas and are securing critical infrastructure including roads and water sources.
“In the Hiiraan region the Somali National Army (SNA) alongside ATMIS forces have successfully conducted joint operations that resulted in the liberation of Aboorey Village from the terrorists,” the Mission said.
“ATMIS maintains that a professionally trained and well-equipped Somali Security Forces (SSF) is indeed a game-changer in the fight against terrorism in Somalia.”
According to the Somali government, the forces have liberated more than 60 areas in the last two weeks in operations which took place in Gedo, Bay, Hiiraan and Galgadud regions.
