The Federal government of Somalia has reacted to the constitutional mandate expired by the President and his government. They confirmed that Farmajo will remain the legitimate President of Somalia until a new President is elected.
Mohamed Ibrahim Moualimou, the Spokesperson of Villa Somalia explained that the federal government is not giving up to make efforts to resolve the political disputes between the country’s political stakeholders. He also highlighted Farmajo will be replaced by the time a new legitimate President is elected.
Yesterday, The term office of Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and his government expired. No agreement has yet been reached for the election which was expected to take place on last Monday.
The Council of opposition Presidential candidates and Puntland state of Somalia announced that they will no longer recognise Farmajo as the legitimate President of the country.
Somalia’s International partners have also called on the country’s stakeholders to resume dialogue to iron out differences over electoral process.In a statement, the International community said they strongly support further dialogue in a calm and constructive spirit.
