Former Somali Ambassador to Iraq has died in Mogadishu

A Former Somalia Ambassador to Iraq Esse Ali Mohamed has died in Mogadishu. At the time of his death Ali was serving as a senior diplomat of Somalia’s forgien Affairs Ministry.

Relatives have confirmed to CBA the death of Somalia’s Former ambassador to Iraq Esse Ali Mohamed who is commonly known as (Esse Dheere).

The diplomat passed away in Mogadishu. Reports indicate that Esse Dheere has been ill for the past few days in Mogadishu.

The relatives said that he used to receive treatment Abroad, but due to the lockdown imposed by many countries around the world, restictricting air travel, Mr. Esse could not seek treatment from oversees.

On March 18, the Federal Government of Somalia implemented flight restrictions intended to limit the spread of COVID-19. International flights were initially suspended for a period of 15 days.

On April 6, this suspension was extended for an additional 30 days, with humanitarian and cargo exceptions.

Health screenings are being implemented under the guidance of UN and World Health Organization representatives in Mogadishu.

The deceased was born in 1942 in Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia. In 1965 he started to serve as a teacher and later became the General Director of Somalia Teachers’ Club.

In 1986 he was appointed as Somalia’s ambassador to Tunis to promote a good diplomatic relation between Somalia And Tunis.

Ambassador Esse Dheere was also Somalia Ambassador to Iraq under former President Mohamed Siad Barre. He was also an advisor for Somalia’s Foreign Affairs ministry on issues concerning the Arab World.

He worked with the last two Presidents of Somalia: Sheikh Sharif and Hassan Sheikh Mohoud as a senior advisor.

The career diplomat has had a valuable input towards Somalia’s foreign policy.
