Somalia’s Ex-Information Minister, Mohamed Abdi Maareeye has won one of northern regions’ parliamentary seats of Somalia. More than two hundred delegates representing northern regions of Somalia have today elected their lower house representatives at the General Kahiye Police Academy in Hamar Jajab district.
Mareye has retained his seat after garnering 96 votes out of 101 possible votes. His opponent Abdirahman Warsame Saed got three while two votes were declared invalid. Maareeye served in various positions for the last administrations
During the election process, the Federal Elections Indirect Team (FEIT) warned Candidates running for the Lower House and delegates to not cover their faces during voting. The elections body said it would bar candidates who conceal their faces noting such actions undermined the credibility of the elections
