The Intergovernmental Authority on Development, an eight-country multinational bloc in East Africa, has called on Somalia stakeholders to sit down with the federal government in a process and give the “new initiative a chance.”
The comments came in a press release where the group said that dialogue would be the only solution to this electoral crisis. The statement did not outline the proposed plan but urged Somalia’s leaders to refrain from action that would escalate an already tense political situation.
This statement also comes at a time the African Union is meeting today Thursday to discuss the political crises in Somalia. The president of Somalia Farmajo sought African Union to take a role and mediate Somalia’s political stakeholders during his visit to DR Congo.
But, the opposition candidates insisted that they will accept mediation after the AU recognised Farmajo’s term extension as “illegitimate”.
