Police in Mogadishu have opened an investigation into the death of a young Somali-Norwegian woman who died under “suspicious” circumstances earlier in the week.
Kama Duale was a social media-savvy activist, whose sudden death this week in Mogadishu, shocked her friends and family, who say that their suspicions were heightened when the healthy and social active young lady went abruptly offline in late April.
The Deputy Police Commissioner of the Somali Police, Brig. Gen Zakia Hussen Ahmed, the highest ranking woman in Somalia’s police force, said she was “personally overseeing” the investigation and asked Twitter users with information to cooperate with police directly. He urges social media users to refrain from posting sensitive content as this could have an adverse impact on the trail of the case
On Thursday the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it received information regarding a young Norwegian woman’s death in Mogadishu but said that it would take their foreign service sometime before they can formally confirm the death of a citizen.
