Journalist shot dead by unknown gunmen in Somalia

Unknown gunmen on Monday shot dead journalist Jamal Farah Aden at the center of Galkacyo town in Somalia, according to colleagues and media organizations.

Aden, who was a veteran journalist who worked for radio Galkacyo, the oldest radio station in Mudug region where Galkacyo locates, was killed in cold blood around his residence according to reports.

Somali journalists Syndicate strongly condemned the murder. Abdalle Ahmed Mumin who is the secretary general of the journalist’s union described the incident as callous.

Mr. Aden’s death records as the first journalist killed in Somalia this year and no group has claimed the responsibility for the killing.
Somalia still tops the Global Impunity Index for countries where the perpetrators against journalists escape prosecution.
