Jubbaland state of Somalia will finally vote for senators on Thursday, a process which will kick-start the twice-delayed electoral season in the country.
Jubbaland state leader Ahmed Madobe had earlier issued the list of candidates that had delayed publication leading to rescheduling of elections meant for last Sunday.
Thursday’s vote will be for four of the seats while elections for the four remaining posts will take place after candidates are vetted.
Among the nine candidates contesting on Thursday, only one of them is a woman, according to a statement issued Tuesday, and signed by Madobe.
Jubbaland is the first of Somalia’s five states to vote in a month-long Senate election.
