Teargas and running battles have been witnessed in major cities of Kenya such as Nairobi and kisumu as police engage protesters.
Police in Nairobi blocked protesters who wanted to march to Nairobi on Monday morning. Buisness remained closed as Demonstrators hurled rocks at anti-riot police in the capital, while about two dozen people were arrested, including two opposition MPs.
In Kisumu city as well as parts of Nairobi’s biggest slum Kibera, demonstrators set tyres alight and barricaded roads.
Roads leading to State House were barricaded , with police turning away motorists using the roads to access their places of work. Many were forced to use alternative, longer routes to access their workplaces.
Other parts of the country were relatively quiet and buisness as usual such as Mombasa city.
Raila Odinga, leader of the Azimio la Umoja party, has long protested that the August election was fraudulent and denounced Ruto’s government as “illegitimate”.
