Kenya prepares to hold General Elections on 9th August

Kenyans are due to vote on August 9 in a high-stakes election that has polarized the country’s political elite. The official campaign period came to an end on Saturday, with Deputy President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga being the clear front runners in the race to succeed retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Although the campaign has been largely peaceful, its tone sharpened in the final weeks. The two candidates made their final pitches on Saturday afternoon during large public meetings held at Nyayo Stadium and Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.

Speaking at the Kasarani stadium, Raila Odinga who heads the Azimio la Umoja party expressed confidence that the future was bright for Kenyans in his government. He stated that his government will liberalize the country economically devoid of tribalism and corruption.

Kenya Kwanza presidential flag bearer William Ruto is also confident of a win in Tuesday’s general election. Speaking at Nyayo stadium, the deputy president noted that they remain hopeful and vigilant and will not be part of any scheme to sabotage elections.

“We are committed to a peaceful elections and we will not contradict our vow to bring peace. We urge every Kenyan to vote peaceful and wait for results peacefully,” Ruto said.
