France on Thursday donated 182, 400 doses of the AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria) vaccine to Kenya. These vaccines are largely to be used as a second dose in Kenya’s vaccine programme.
The vaccines were donated through the covax facility and were transported by UNICEF into the country. Senior government officials led by Dr. Willis Akhwale, the chairman of Covid vaccine deployment task-force in the ministry of health, French political counselor Emmanuel Dagron and UNICEF representative Maniza Zaman were at hand to receive the jabs at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Kenya is expecting more donations of the Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson vaccines, to reach its target of vaccinating 10 million Kenyans by the end of this year.
