Kenya suspends flights to and from Somalia

Kenya has banned all flights to and from Somalia with immediate effect for three months from May 11 to August 9 this year.

Only humanitarian deliveries and medical evacuation flights will be allowed into the country, according to a notice by the aviation regulator, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority.

Although no reason was given, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority Director General Captain Gilbert Kibe said it was an order they are implementing and Kibe said he would not disclose details of who gave the orders and why.

This comes barely a week after Somalia said it had restored diplomatic ties with Kenya. It is not the first time that Nairobi or Mogadishu is banning flights.
