Kenyan Television journalist and Standard Group Chief of Staff Laban Cliff Onserio is currently held by detectives from the Anti-Terror Police Unit for being in possession of a grenade and threatening to use it to attack security guards at the holy family basilica church in Nairobi.
An affidavit filed on Monday at the Kahawa Law Courts where Onserio was presented indicated that he was apprehended by a multi-agency team who responded at the scene after receiving information on an imminent terror threat at Holy Family Basilica.
Detectives say the journalist “could not give satisfactory reasons why he was in possession of the flash bang grenade” nor produce a certificate allowing him to be in possession of the device.
The detectives said Onserio told them he had acquired the grenade from a British national, Don Smith who is said to be currently working with Fly 540.
At the time of his arrest, the prosecution told the court the suspect was also found with three phones.
Onserio will be detained for five days pending conclusion of investigations.
