Kenyan President William Ruto held a crucial meeting with Senior Chinese Diplomat Wang Yi in Nairobi on Saturday with a focus on deepening cooperation between the two nations through the Belt and Road initiative.
Both sides expressed their commitment to deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership between China and Kenya, which has spanned 60 years.
Wang Yi, the director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, lauded the longstanding relationship between the two nations, emphasizing that they have consistently treated each other as equals and supported one another in their pursuit of revitalization.
He stressed that China views its relations with Kenya from a strategic perspective and is dedicated to aligning their strategies for development and cooperation.
During the meeting, Wang highlighted China’s support for Kenya’s efforts in safeguarding its national independence, fighting terrorism, and charting a development path that suits its unique national conditions.
He expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with Kenya on various fronts, including railway, highway, aviation, and information, while jointly advancing the Belt and Road cooperation and the “nine programs” of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
On his part, President Ruto commended China’s efforts in fostering friendly cooperation based on mutual respect and stated that deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership is a shared consensus among all sectors in Kenya.
He expressed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening inter-party exchanges and collaborating in crucial sectors like railway, highway, water conservancy, aviation, and renewable energy under the frameworks of Belt and Road cooperation and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
The meeting between Wang Yi and Alfred Mutua, Kenya’s cabinet secretary for foreign and diaspora affairs, further underscored the fruitful results of bilateral cooperation between China and Kenya.
Wang reiterated China’s support for Kenya in regional and international affairs, expressing China’s readiness to strengthen coordination and cooperation to safeguard the interests of developing countries.
