Kenya’s president Uhuru Kenyatta has today led the nation in celebrating the 59th independence day also known as Madaraka day. The celebrations saw key government officials, political and religious leaders and foreign dignitaries grace the occasion at the newly launched Uhuru Gardens Monument and Museum. Among the foreign dignitaries was Sierra Leone President, Julius Maada Bio.
Being Uhuru’s last National Celebrations in office, the Kenya Defence Forces went all out to display their military paraphernalia as a way of bidding farewell to the head of State.
During the event, the president conferred State Commendations to 10 Kenyans for their outstanding services rendered to the nation in various capacities. He also pardoned 3,908 prisoners who have been serving time behind bars in various prisons across the country.
