The Dhuusamareeb consultative meeting has officially commenced in Galmudug administrative capital, Dhusamareb. Federal and regional leaders have gathered in the city for the fourth round of electoral talks.
This meeting is expected to conclude the long-running disputes which have seen elections postponed three times since October. The forum will focus on the 17-sep agreement signed by the federal government and leaders of regional states.
According to the federal government officials, the forum was earlier scheduled to start on Tuesday but was postponed to give the leaders resting time. Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, Prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, Leaders from Federal member states and the governor of Benadir region are the key participants of the meeting.
The Council of Presidential Candidates (CPC) which brings together 14 presidential candidates has welcomed the Dhusamareb talks and called for an agreement to allow elections to take place. Somalia’s parliamentary and presidential elections were earlier scheduled to take place this year but differences over electoral committees had forced the elections to be postponed.
