At Least four mortars were hit at some parts of Beledweyne town in Somalia. Residents said they heard heavy explosions in all the neighborhoods. Three mortars were reported hit at Hawa Tako area while the fourth targeted at Buundoweyn area which is not far from the central police station of Beledweyne.
Authorities have not yet reported the exact casualties resulting from the successive mortar attacks as no group or individual claimed the responsibility for the attack. But, the attack came at a time Alshabab increased its attacks targeted government institutions in the last few days.
The group waged an attack on a military base and the compound housing the Mogadishu mayor’s office and other local government facilities which the government forces eventually ended the siege.
