Kenyan detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are presently holding two suspects in whose possession an assortment of firearms and ammunition were recovered.
Joyce Muthoni Mwihia and her mother Goretti Mwihia, both of whom hold dual citizenship, were arrested by sleuths from the DCI’s Anti-Terrorism Police Unit at their home in Racecourse, Dagoretti Corner, Nairobi County.
Among the weapons recovered during the operation include an M4 sniper rifle with an effective range of 500 metres.
Also recovered were 4 pistols and a close quarter Uzi automatic submachine gun capable of firing over 600 rounds per minute, as well as an assortment of over 3,700 rounds of ammunition of different calibre.
The detectives from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit of the DCI believe the cache of arms and ammunition were sneaked into the country for terror activities.
The two suspects are being held for further interrogation as ballistic examination of the weapons continues.
