Residents of Mandera county in North Eastern Kenya risk being exposed to diseases as a result of the raging drought.
At least 106 children have already been admitted to hospitals across the county..
Majority of the children admitted are below the age of five and are suffering from malnutrition coupled with extreme complications.
Mandera county Health Executive, Dr Mohamud Adan Mohamed says most of the children are exposed to pneumonia, tuberculosis and diarrhoea.
Lactating and pregnant mothers who are also at risk of suffering from respiratory diseases often end up giving birth to underweight babies.
The county government has also lined up a series of interventions through nutritional outreach programs which include; iron supplementation, deworming and rehabilitation of admitted children.
Mandera CEC called upon the national government to declare drought a national disaster and allocate more relief food to most affected areas
The ongoing drought has ravaged at least 13 counties in the country. The drought is the worst Kenya has experienced in the last 40 years and about 4million people are in dire need of food aid.
