Kenya’s head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua announced yesterday that Dr Ruto, will be sworn in on Tuesday 13th between 10am and 2pm. The Chief Justice will administer the oath of office to the President-elect alongside the registrar of the High Court. Deputy President-elect Rigathi Gachagua will also take an oath on the same day.
The Assumption of Office Committee, which is tasked with facilitating handover of the instruments of power to the incoming government, met Tuesday to put final touches to transition plans.
The military has also been conducting rehearsals at Kasarani stadium, where security has since been tightened ahead of the event, which is expected to be attended by thousands of Kenyans, heads of missions and a number of heads of state.
Outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta who did not support Mr Ruto and neither congratulated him on his win, said that he will ensure that the transition process is smooth.
