The incumbent President of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has formally declared his candidacy for President. In a three minute televised address, the President expressed satisfaction that the election will take place on 15th May which also marks the anniversary of SYL which played a key role in the country’s road to independence.
He said the country needs a trusted leader and demanded the MPs to endorse for reelection. In this short clip, Farmajo did not talk about his plans if he is reelected for a second term in office but he seems to be delivering when he is giving the campaign address to the Mps few days later.
Farmajo will face the race with his Predecessor including his boss who brought him into Politics Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed. If the two houses elect President Farmajo, he will be the first ever Somali incumbent President to reelect for two consecutive terms in office.
