In a televised question-and-answer session in Mogadishu, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia discussed various topics including security and the 2026 elections.
He announced plans for one-person, one-vote elections, expressing his determination not to return to the indirect election system in which he was twice elected as President, most recently in May 2022.
The President noted that the plan to hold such an important election will soon start in the country to avoid delays, underlining that they have good time to prepare for it.
He clarified there are various models of one person, one vote elections and his people will soon decide which model could favor them regarding the 2026 elections.
