Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to travel to the Puntland state of Somalìa, the first trip to the state since he assumed office in May. Initial reports say the President will spend three days in Puntland.
During his stay, he will be having talks with the regional President, and former candidate for Somalia’s Presidency in 2022, Saed Abdullahi Deni. The duo is expected to discuss enhancing relations between the federal government and the regional state. Security issues will be a main sector of their discussion.
Puntland had a cold relationship with the federal government for the last five years after a political disagreement emerged between the regional President and former Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
President Hassan Sheikh is also expected to visit the coastal city of Bosaso to resolve the contention which was caused by the death of 16 Somali soldiers following the arrival of Somalia’s first deputy chair.
