Kenya’s president William Ruto is leading the Kenyan delegation to Egypt and will also be the leader of African Continent Heads of State in the summit, which brings together more than 130 Heads of State from around the globe.
President William Ruto on Sunday arrived in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, for the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27). Ruto will on Monday deliver two statements, one for Kenya and another for Africa, to over 40,000 delegates.
The 27th Conference of Parties on Climate Change was officially opened by the COP 27 President and Egypt’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, on Sunday at the Blue Zone in the Green City of Sharm El Sheikh.
The Summit comes at a time when Africa is facing weather extremes coupled with energy and food crises, with Kenya is experiencing the worst drought in 40 years as a result of the effects of climate change.
According to a Sunday evening communiqué by State House, President Ruto will advocate for the implementation of the Paris Agreement adopted by 196 Parties at COP21 in 2015 that undertakes to combat climate change and adapt to its effects.
